First Day of Sectionals: Singles Competition
(Students bowled independently of their teammates, and could qualify for Regionals as a Single bowler)
Notable Scores from Saturday: Rose Mestas scored her high game of 169; Jayden Diaz scored his high game of 150.

In the female division, 6 bowlers qualified to go to Regionals. MaKenzie Glass tied for 6th place and had to go into a tie breaker. Unfortunately, she lost the tie-breaker to go to Regionals next weekend. (Pretty good for a freshman)

In the male division, 18 bowlers qualified, Nicholas Buell finished 40 pins out of the cut-off.

Second Day of Sectionals: Team Competition
We did not qualify to move on to Regionals, but notable teams that we did manage to beat were Brebeuf, Bishop Chatard, and Covenant Christian to finish 7th. 12 teams competed.

Devin Bolden scored his 1,000th point and became the 6th boys basketball player to eclipse that mark. This took place in the opening round of the city tournament in a 90-49 victory over Herron. He also added 10 rebounds moving him closer to becoming the school’s all time leading rebounder. He followed that up with a 28 point 20 rebound performance in a quarterfinal victory over Heritage Christian. That game took an overtime victory to push Cardinal Ritter to their first City Semifinal appearance in 8 years. Bolden hit the tying basket with 30 seconds to go in overtime followed by the go ahead foul shot. The Raiders survived 2 Heritage Christian possessions to advance to play #1 seed Cathedral. Your Raiders jumped out to an early lead behind the perfect shooting of Bolden in the 1st quarter as he went 6-6 from the field and 1-1 from the foul line to net 11 points in the quarter. The Raiders maintained the lead for 27 of 32 minutes but 2 fouls on Bolden in the 3rd quarter sent him to the bench and gave Cathedral the advantage they needed to come back and secure the win. Hopefully this showing proves to the Raiders that they have a great chance to win their Sectional. Cathedral is the #2 ranked team in 3A and #9 overall in the state. Rylan Coleman played an outstanding floor game throughout the City Tournament as did Anthony Anuka. Devin is 35 rebounds away from becoming the school’s all time leading rebounder! That record has stood since 1969!!

Devin Bolden put together another dominant performance on Saturday for Cardinal Ritter Boys Basketball, recording a double-double in a hard-fought matchup against Bethesda Christian. Despite battling through a rolled ankle from Friday night’s game and facing constant double- and triple-teams, Bolden still finished with 26 points and 15 rebounds.

With that performance, Bolden now sits just 25 points away from reaching 1,000 career points, a milestone he is set to achieve on January 19th. Once he reaches the mark, he will become only the seventh player in school history to score 1,000 points.

Bolden is also on track to make history on the glass. He is just 78 rebounds away from breaking Cardinal Ritter’s all-time rebounding record, which has stood since 1969, and is expected to surpass it within the next couple of weeks. Remarkably, he is accomplishing all of this in just three varsity seasons.

His efficiency has been just as impressive. Bolden is currently shooting an incredible 74% from the field for his career, which would break the school record of 67.4% set in 2011. Last night, he was a perfect 13-for-13 from the floor.

On the defensive end, Bolden continues to dominate as well, sitting just 38 blocked shots away from becoming Cardinal Ritter’s all-time leader in that category.

Looking ahead, Bolden has his sights set on another historic mark: the single-game scoring record of 45 points. His coach believes Bolden has a real chance to break it by scoring 50 points before the season ends, with January 19th shaping up as a prime opportunity.

With his toughness, consistency, and record-breaking pace, Devin Bolden is cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in Cardinal Ritter history.
